Baltimore was hot for the first several days, and I am so glad I packed those few hot-weather clothes. My suitcase weighed in at 48 pounds, just under the 50 pound weight limit. Thank goodness for that! I suspect that the X-ray which revealed my Wusthof kitchen knives prompted the TSA search of the luggage; they left their little calling card. Maybe my bag will be a little lighter because I am going to wear heavier clothing to fly--Carcassonne is forecast to be partly sunny and 60 degrees on Friday, which is when I land.
Since it was so hot here, I didn't mind staying in my friend Janet's basement for several days, working on preparing and filing the main state report I had to do. It took longer than I'd anticipated--it always does. But the bulk of the work is done, save for a few stragglers. I have time to get those sorted out once I arrive in Carcassonne.
It hasn't been ALL work. I have visited with some friends here in Baltimore and in Washington DC. Yesterday I spent the day with an old friend with whom I've reconnected thanks to Facebook. I suppose I didn't realize just how much I had missed him until I saw him at Union Station. I took the MARC train to DC; the entire train/light rail system is vastly improved since I lived here all those years ago. Today I saw two of my sisters; we'd not seen one another since our sister Sylvia died in 2002. So, it was a good visit. Tomorrow I will see my god-child and have him take me to the airport at Dulles. It seems funny to have him driving me around.
I am finishing up the laundry and will go upstairs to repack. Janet's house is a little Cape Cod, with a basement and a second floor, so I am getting practice using the steps. (I will have plenty of them in France.) I heard from my Carcassonne landlord today that my parcel had arrived. So, my bathrobe and shoes are truly waiting for me in France. I'm on my way, full of butterflies and hopes.
