A Day to Stay In

Even though I titled this article as I did, the fact is that I did go out. I am addicted to the newspaper-without it I can't seem to settle into the day. I know I can read it on line, but I love being able to fold it up, mark on it, work the puzzle, circle and clip articles.  Is that a sign of being a certain age? Probably.

However, the title is the truth.  There is a light rain, but the wind makes it feel far cooler than the mid-40's that it actually is.  I hear it referred to as le mistral, but I don't think that's technically accurate for Carcassonne.  I think the mistral occurs further east of here--over in Provence. Let's just call this a cold wind out of the north-west that played havoc with my umbrella--its poor ribs are twisted and turned.

While I was out, I returned some books to the library and chose two more.  I am enjoying reading French poetry, and can often get through one without consulting a dictionary...and I am left with a delicious poem to turn over and examine for deeper meanings.  I also checked out a book about the history of the Cathars.  It's actually easier for me to read non-fiction than it is to read a novel.  There's less slang (none of which seems to be in my French-English dictionary.)

Even though I ventured out, there were few others on the street. I really is a good day to stay in.  Besides, the opera is tonight, so I will be going out anyway.  I hope the rain and wind abate, but whatever, I can't wait to hear it.  I don't know exactly how much I will SEE from the third balcony, but I have seen this opera at least 6 times.  Each one different, each one wonderful.
