Gambetta Saturday Morning

Ugh! I guess it was bound to happen, being exposed to all manner of new "bugs."  I have that scratchy eye, sneezey feeling this morning, so this will be short. (You can stop clapping at any time.) I just took an Airborne, which, whether it's due to the placebo effect or not, seems to work well for me. Then I am going to have a nap, to make up for the time I was awake most of the night.  I will multi-task by running a load of laundry while I snooze. It's considerably warmer and appreciably more humid than it has been for a few days.  I didn't need my scarf at all when I went out for my normal Saturday grocery shopping.

The Gambetta market.

The markets this morning were packed. The line for "my" butcher shop was out the door and on to the sidewalk.  Lots of little old people in both places today. I wonder if it's something like the retirees got their monthly checks yesterday and today they are marketing for the month.  It's so weird, I loom over these little old ladies.  They are scarcely five feet tall, I will bet, but they carry themselves like Amazons.

Scarves--5 Euros

I got through an entire article in the newspaper today without having to consult my dictionary even once.  It was about a kitten with rabies--the first case in France since 2001. I was so happy--I think this means that I am making progress with my language. I  read La Depeche--it is the one (of the three daily papers here) that I like the best.  It has a good mix of national news, but still manages to cover what's important locally. I did read one tiny little blurb about some shooting in LAX, but it was certainly not headline or even front page news.

Maybe a nice red sofa for the TV room

I found the theater and will get to see the opera on the 15th.  It's La Traviata, one that I love--who doesn't?--and I am so looking forward to it.

And that's about all the news that's fit to print today.

PURSES!!  I am going in!!!
