So Many Things to Do-So Little Time

Elegant staircase

I went to the theater today and got a ticket for the performance of  La Traviata next Friday night.  I also bought some tickets for the Soweto Gospel Choir, which will be here during the time that Diane and Jerry Moffit will be visiting. I am excited about all three events.

La Traviata--I love that opera.

I love the fact that it is less than a five minute walk from my apartment.  I remember all the hassles involved with driving and parking at the Kennedy Center in DC or the Meyerhoff or Lyric in Baltimore.  (I think it might be better now that there is a better metro/light rail system in place).  Being able to just walk to the theater is wonderful.

The offerings are quite diverse.  There are plays--there's one with Alain Delon--I remember him from the 60's.  Handsome....dangerous.....  I would like to go and see it, but hesitate because my language skills may not justify the price.  There's another play--Fratricide--that also looks interesting. It's being produced in a few weeks and that may give me enough time to keep learning, at least enough so I can get most of the story. There are also recitals and dance productions, comedies and concerts.  What a treasure! I know that I will be spending as much time as possible here.  The other nice thing is that the price structure is reasonable enough that I can see many offerings.

Fratricide--Looks interessant, non?

My friend Linda (the Brit from the Protestant church) also gave me a brochure of all the activities in Carcassonne for November and December.  There are lots and lots of free things to do.  This area goes crazy for Christmas and there's one thing in particular I want to see--the parade of torches from the walled city down the hill into the Bastide, where I live.  (Excuse me, that would be centre ville.)   There are Marches de Noel...Christmas Markets and in one town near here, the annual truffle market is scheduled for early December.  I can hardly wait.

It has rained, very softly, off and on since before noon.  I am going back out for a walk.  I have been writing, and feel like I am making some progress on a piece I've been chewing on for several weeks. Finally!
