Dimanche--Sunday, and the city is at rest. It marks the end of the two week school vacances, so tomorrow I will get to see the city under "normal" conditions , something that I haven't yet done. I love listening to the church bells ringing ("en chaine" I think is the term.)
I did eventually get off the computer yesterday and lie down....and slept for hours and hours. I feel much better today-the Airborne and the sleep delivered a one-two punch to whatever foreign bug wanted to set up housekeeping. And I am thankful.
I went back to the Protestant church this morning. I was greeted by a number of people as, "Ah oui, l'americaine." Oh yes, the American. Linda, my English guide through the services, and I were shushed by some bossy woman who introduced herself to me as, "l'allemagne" the German. I have taken an instant dislike to her. She didn't shush any of the other people who were talking, and besides, the service had not yet started. I was pretty happy with how much of the service I managed to fully comprehend, but at the same time was aware of just how intently I have to focus to have this happen. I can't allow those stray thoughts to enter my head, and oh God, how many stray thoughts fire away in there....
It rained last night and is a little cooler today. I have done some housework, so I guess it's not really been a lazy Sunday. I have a load of laundry drying on the rack, the kitchen is clean, the bathroom is cleaned and the floor is vacuumed. I have been doing some writing as well since I returned from church, and the Sunday paper awaits. The opera is on and all is well here on rue de Pont Vieux.
I may go out for a walk, although I got a nice one in going to church this morning. If I go, I will take mon parapluie--my umbrella. Sorry I have no photos today. I don't think that my unmentionables drying on the rack are worthy of a blog post.
